The Labour government has announced over £32 million in vital upgrades for hospitals across South West London – including over £11 million for Kingston and Richmond NHS Trust, £9 million for St George’s, and £12 million for Epsom and St Helier.

This major investment will fund essential safety repairs and improvements to hospital buildings.

It comes after years of neglect under Conservative and Coalition governments, which left NHS buildings in serious disrepair. A recent UNISON report revealed the shocking extent of decay, with rats and other pests reported in hospitals across the country.

The funding is part of Labour’s £1.2 billion Estates Safety Fund and supports Labour’s national mission to rebuild the NHS over the next 10 years.

Already, NHS waiting lists are falling, GP recruitment is rising, and the target of two million extra appointments has been hit ahead of schedule.

Kezia Coleman, Chair of Kingston and Surbiton Labour Party said: “This £32 million investment into our local hospitals, including Kingston, St George’s, and Epsom and St Helier, alongside new funding for GP services, is a clear sign that Labour is rebuilding the NHS after years of neglect. It’s a real step forward for patients and staff in Kingston and across South West London.”

Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, said: “A decade and a half of underinvestment left hospitals crumbling, with burst pipes flooding emergency departments, faulty electrical systems shutting down operating theatres, and mothers giving birth in outdated facilities that lack basic dignity.

We are on a mission to rebuild our NHS through investment and modernisation. Patients and staff deserve to be in buildings that are safe, comfortable and fit for purpose.

Through our Plan for Change, we will make our NHS fit for the future.”

After inheriting a £22 billion black hole from the Conservatives, Labour has focused on securing the country’s finances, delivering growth, and restoring public services that our communities urgently need.
