Many local people have told us that crime and anti-social behaviour are affecting their daily lives. We share these concerns and have passed feedback from these conversations to local Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community.
The Labour Government’s Safer Streets Summer Blitz, led by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, is bringing together police, councils, and businesses across England and Wales to tackle crime head-on.
In London, Mayor Sadiq Khan is working with the Metropolitan Police, councils, retailers, and community groups to crack down on shoplifting, theft, and anti-social behaviour in town centres, including Kingston.
We have already seen an increase in visible police activity locally.
Between July and September, the Metropolitan Police are rolling out additional patrols and targeted operations in 20 of London’s busiest town centres, including Kingston, as part of the Mayor’s Safer Streets Summer initiative. The focus is on preventing crime, tackling prolific offenders, and making public spaces safer for everyone.
- Increased uniformed and plain-clothes patrols in hotspot areas such as Kingston town centre
- Data-driven deployments using improved intelligence
- Stronger partnerships with retailers, councils, and community groups, including Neighbourhood Watch
- Enhanced tools such as facial recognition, shared intelligence platforms, and CCTV alerts to help identify and prosecute repeat offenders
The Mayor has also welcomed the Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which will bring 13,000 additional neighbourhood police officers, Police Community Support Officers, and special constables across the country. In London, 1,300 extra neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs will be funded between 2025 and 2029, backed by a record £1.16 billion investment from City Hall.
Kezia Coleman, Chair of Kingston Labour, said:
“Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live, work, and shop. Labour are taking action to tackle crime head-on, but it’s just as important that we focus on prevention. The council must ensure investment in services and creating, opportunities, and outlets for young people in our community.”
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said:
“High streets and town centres are the very heart of our communities. Residents and businesses have the right to feel safe in their towns.”
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said:
“This summer, town centres and high streets will see more police as part of our collaborative work to tackle shoplifting and anti-social behaviour. We’re working with the Met, local partners, and community groups to build safer town centres and a safer London for everyone.”
Labour is listening, and delivering action to build safer streets, stronger communities for Kingston.
