Labour Is Delivering the Biggest Boost to Pay and Workers’ Rights in a Generation

Labour’s Plan to Make Work Pay
Labour is committed to delivering the biggest uplift in workers’ rights in a generation. For too long, the Conservatives have left working people worse off, attacking pay, job security, and basic protections. Our Employment Rights Bill will change that—creating fairer workplaces, stronger protections, and better wages for millions.
The Conservatives Have Failed Working People
- The average worker is £700 worse off than in 2010 due to the Tories’ reckless actions.
- Their government pitted workers against businesses, leading to the worst strike disruption in decades.
- They have called maternity pay “excessive” and the minimum wage a “burden”—they haven’t changed and would take Britain backwards.
Labour’s Plan for Change
Labour is committed to improving living standards and ensuring fair pay. We have already:
- Boosted pay for 3.5 million workers with the biggest-ever cash increase to the National Minimum and National Living Wage.
- Protected paychecks by supporting working people and investing in public services.
Labour’s new legislation will create fairer, more secure jobs by:
- Banning fire and rehire and ending exploitative zero-hour contracts.
- Ensuring family-friendly work with employment rights from day one, including parental leave, stronger pregnancy protections, and safeguards against unfair dismissal.
“Labour’s Employment Rights Bill will deliver a much-needed boost to workers’ rights. It is a huge step forward in creating a fairer, more secure future for working people. This is the change we need, and it will make all the difference to working people, and families.” – Kingston & Surbiton Labour Chair Kezia Coleman
