Labour is funding councils to repair up to one million potholes a year across England, with Kingston set to receive a £543,000 government funding boost to tackle the problem.
Fourteen years of Tory decline have left our roads in a disgraceful state. There are 100 times more potholes on our roads than craters on the moon. Pothole damage cost drivers almost £500 million just last year.
For Kingston residents, this funding will address a problem that impacts everyone – whether you’re a driver, cyclist, pedestrian, or commuter.
Kingston and Surbiton Labour Party Chair, Kezia Coleman, says: “Potholes are more than just a nuisance; they’re a safety hazard and a strain on wallets. Poor road conditions damage vehicles and endanger cyclists and pedestrians – especially for those who struggle with mobility or have visual impairments. In areas like Kingston, where many navigate busy streets daily, well-maintained roads aren’t just a convenience; they’re essential for reducing accidents and ensuring accessibility for everyone.”
Labour’s plan would give councils like Kingston’s the resources needed to deliver these repairs.
Labour is committed to investing in our roads:
- Fix seven million extra potholes each year.
- Repair broken roads by investing £1.6 billion this year – nearly 50% more than the Tories had promised.
We’re also helping drivers by:
- Reversing the Conservatives’ planned fuel duty rise and freezing it, saving the average driver £55 next year.
- Tackling out-of-control car insurance premiums with a new taskforce.
