Alongside the Mayor of London’s commitment to providing free school meals for all primary school children for as long as he is in office, Labour is taking another step to support families by delivering on its manifesto promise: rolling out free breakfast clubs in primary schools.
This is a huge step forward in Labour’s mission to create a fairer, brighter future for every child, and will make a positive difference to families:
- Giving parents more flexibility for work – Making mornings smoother and providing working parents with more options.
- Ensuring no child starts the day hungry – Every child deserves a nutritious start to fuel their learning.
- Break down barriers to opportunity – Tackling inequality and helping every child reach their full potential.
Early Rollout for Local Schools
Kingston and Surbiton Labour Party is urging local schools to sign up as part of the 750 “early adopter” schools for the government’s new free breakfast club programme. This is a vital opportunity to support local children, helping them start their school day ready to learn and thrive.
Kingston and Surbiton Labour Party Chair Kezia Coleman highlighted the transformative impact of the scheme will have, and its benefits for families and communities:
“Free breakfast clubs are a win for parents, a win for children, and a win for the economy. They will be a game-changer for families in Kingston – making it easier for parents to balance work and school drop-offs, ensuring no child starts the day hungry, and easing the cost-of-living burden.
“Labour was elected to transform Britain, and this is exactly what that looks like. We urge local schools to seize this opportunity and apply early to start benefiting from free breakfast clubs from April next year.”
Headteachers across the country have praised this initiative, highlighting its potential to improve attendance, boost concentration, and support overall academic achievement.
