Sadly, the destruction of the important nature and heritage site at the Seething Wells Filter Beds continues. Cascina, the owners of the Seething Wells Filter Beds, have been stripping spring growth and topsoil. The Victorian filtration system is being destroyed with the gravels being dug out.

Our Candidate in St Marks, Charlie Deacon, part of the Seething Wells Action Group, who have been fighting to protect the site and prevent further destruction says:

“It’s a disgrace that the owners of this Site of Importance for Nature Conservation are able to get away with this continued destruction at the start of nesting season. The ramping up of works in recent weeks, leads to questions about developers future plans for the site, and is making a mockery of the Lib Dems’ claimed “heritage-led regeneration”. This has coincided with the council’s refusal to consider a CPO and offer a “working group” instead. Kingston Council needs to get a grip, stop letting developers dictate the agenda and set out a clear path to purchase the site as a community nature reserve.”

Labour candidates have taken the Seething Wells pledge to purchase the site for a community nature reserve, to celebrate its biodiversity and heritage.
