Kingston Labour Party
March 2022
The last four years have been a huge disappointment for residents.
The Kingfisher saga has shown a woeful lack of planning from the Lib Dems, leaving Kingston without a pool for five years. The building has been abandoned and left to rot.
They are threatening to sell more land and public assets to developers, who will build for investor profits, not community needs.
They have shown repeatedly they cannot be trusted to protect our historic town, and have selected a slate of candidates with personal and professional links to the property development sector.
The Lib Dems use a tactical voting narrative to trap voters in a non-choice between them and the Conservatives, when the truth is they are far too similar.
Martin Ellis, Labour’s Candidate in Kingston town says “The Lib Dem’s have now insulted everybody’s intelligence by announcing just before the election – swimming pools for everyone! As well as a new Kingfisher, a new one in New Malden and another one in Chessington. While the area desperately needs more leisure facilities, does anyone seriously believe this when looking at the astonishing mismanagement of the Kingfisher saga, and their track record of delivery over the last four years?”
Our Team will provide Kingston with a much needed new voice.
If the Kingfisher is still viable, Labour would make the repairs and open it ASAP.
We will create a five year plan to secure funding for a King Athelstan Visitor Centre as part of a joint leisure and cultural offer. This will attract visitors, restore our local economy and pride in our town, and be an income-generating asset for our community.
