Nominating Meeting: Labour Party Leadership Elections
Kingston & Surbiton Constituency Labour Party is organising a nominating meeting on Thursday 11th August at St John’s Parish Hall, Grove Lane, Kingston, KT1 2SU.
The meeting will start at 8.00 p.m. but the doors will be open at 7.30.
What is a Nomination Meeting?
A nominating meeting is when an individual Constituency Labour Party (CLP) meets together to consider the qualities and policies of the leadership candidates. Members of the CLP are able to voice their views in a spirit of respect for the views and opinions of others. The CLP then holds a secret ballot to ascertain the candidate that members at that CLP nominating meeting feel meets and promotes the qualities and policies that they feel is needed by the Party and the country. The results of the nominating meetings are published and give an indication of levels of support, but they are not binding in any way.
Who can attend and vote?
The NEC rules are clear: CLP Supporting Nomination meetings shall be open only to those eligible members who are entitled to vote in the leadership election. All members shall face a membership verification check at the door. No registered or affiliated supporters may attend CLP nomination meetings unless they are also an eligible member.
Voting members of the Labour Party: please bring your membership card.
Please contact the chair of Kingston and Surbiton CLP, Laurie South (email@example.com) if you are a member entitled to vote in the election and wish to speak, stating whether you want to speak for Corbyn or Smith. This will ensure there will be a balance of speakers. To ensure as many as possible speak, all speakers will be asked to keep what they want to say to 3 minutes.
