Leanne Warner, Kingston on Thames Labour Parliamentary Candidate 2019
Dear members,

It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that Leanne Werner has been selected as our Parliamentary Candidate to contest the 2019 General Election here in Kingston & Surbiton.

Leanne has longstanding connections to Kingston-upon-Thames and South West London. When she lived in the area, she was a regular volunteer for Richmond Museum. Now, she is a Labour Party Councillor in Southwark, where she represents the ward of South Bermondsey. Since she was elected in May 2018, Leanne has chaired a public safety scrutiny commission looking at Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and child trafficking in the borough of Southwark. This has led to key policy recommendations on these important issues. Currently, Leanne chairs Southwark’s first scrutiny commission dedicated to the environment. Through this commission, she is looking at the ways the Council can help reduce pollution and carbon emissions in the borough – a key issue for residents here in Kingston too. Leanne also works for a women’s charity, helping women and children re-start their lives after fleeing domestic violence, leaving prison and escaping modern day slavery. On top of this she is a local school governor specialising in Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND). As an activist, Leanne has campaigned on issues such as cuts to education, VAWG and the environment. It is a huge honour for us to be able to campaign for a committed, community oriented activist at a time when our government, parliament and local council are broken.Together, we will fight for a Kingston-upon-Thames that works for the Many and not the Few.

We are holding our Campaign Fundraiser Quiz Night at 7:30pm on Saturday 9th November 2019, 160 London Road, KT2 6QW.

Our official launch date for our General Election Campaign is Tuesday 12th November 2019. Meet Leanne at our Red Rose Cafe at 160 London Road from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

We are interested in hearing from members about the skills and experience they can bring to our General Election campaign. We welcome all sorts of contribution. Are you interested in delivering leaflets or canvassing for the first time? Are you proficient in writing copy or leaflet design? Might you be able to help Leanne as diary aide or organiser?
