Don’t be fooled by the Lib Dem claims to support local heritage. Despite planning a summer of activity in the Memorial Gardens, little has been done to clean up the mess.

Now people are expected to reflect, and children are expected to play, amongst pigeon feathers and filth. Hundreds of the birds flock around the site covering the seating and statues in their mess.

The Memorial Gardens has also been graffitied, and moped drivers are using it as a parking space.

After years of neglect, why wasn’t the site cleaned up ahead of the summer activities?

Local resident Lynne Finnerty, a Royal British Legion member, said “There are opportunities to get young people interested in the site with appropriate projects so it is cherished for years to come. More needs to be made of the space as a burial ground and the commemorative trees connected to WW2.

Labour’s Kezia Coleman says, “The issue of vermin was raised prior to the installation of the sandpit. We suggested it return to where it was in the Market last summer.

Activities for families are valued and needed more than ever, but this placement puts children’s health at risk. Pigeons transmit diseases such as E. Coli in their droppings, and carry parasites such as ticks and mites.”

We have contacted the Kingston Town Councillors asking for urgent action to be taken.
