Elected Posts in the CLP

All post-holders are members of the Executive Committee (EC)

Note:   (i)   all posts have the role “To undertake other tasks as agreed with the EC”

(ii)  all posts apart from the Chair can have an elected assistant

            (iii) all posts are elected by and accountable to the CLP through the All Member  



  1. 1.    Chair
  • To oversee all aspects of the CLP, together with EC, and to ensure the work,
  • aims and objectives of the Party and the CLP are executed:
  • To develop members of the CLP and ensure as far as possible that all members can take part in the activities of the CLP
  • To chair the CLP All Member meetings and EC
  • To be the ultimate spokes-person for the CLP


  1. 2.    Secretary
  • To ensure that there are records of meetings and resolutions and that these are forwarded as appropriate
  • To receive notifications of issues, events and elections from regional and central office and to deal with them appropriately
  • To organise meetings of the CLP


  1. 3.    Treasurer
  • To keep the party’s finances in good order and advise the EC on financial matters
  • To raise and pay invoices in a timely fashion
  • To ensure accounts are audited and all statutory and Party returns are made


  1. 4.    Membership Vice Chair
  • To keep the EC appraised of membership matters
  • To welcome new members and encourage members to stay in the Party
  • To deputise for the Chair when necessary


  1. 5.    Campaign Co-ordinator Vice Chair
  • To organise any campaigns that the CLP undertakes or that the Party determines
  • To liaise with the Local Campaign Forum
  • To ensure campaigns meet all legal and statutory obligations
  • To deputise for the Chair when necessary


  1. 6.    Premises Secretary
  • To oversee lettings and use of the premises
  • To ensure all utilities are serviced and in good running order
  • To advise the EC on any premises issues
  1. 7.    Communications Officer
  • To oversee communications and with members and the broader public
  • To oversee the development of the CLP’s digital presence        


  1. 8.    Trade Union Liaison Officer
  • To develop constructive links with the trade union movement
  • To advise the EC on TU issues


  1. 9.    Disabilities Officer


  • To keep the EC informed and aware of all disabilities issues


  1. 10.  Equalities Officer (can be separated into Women and BAME Officer)


  • To keep the EC informed and aware of all disabilities issues


  1. 11.  Social Secretary


  • To oversee and organise a range of social and fundraising events


  1. 12.  Political Officer


  • To oversee and organise a range of political events


  1. 13.  Press Officer
  • To oversee in liaison with the Chair, LCF Chair and Communications Officer, press and media relations including issuing press releases


  1. 14.  Youth Officer


  • To oversee activity and liaison with younger members and the university Labour Society


Local Campaign Forum Delegates (12 delegates)

Role:    To contribute to the work of the LCF which covers the whole of Kingston Borough and so has delegates from Richmond Park: the work includes oversight and organisation of: local campaigns, liaison with the Kingston Council Group (councillors), canvassing, local elections and the local manifesto.

 Conference Delegate

Role: To represent and vote on behalf of the CLP at the Annual Conference in September

Note: (i) the CLP will pay for one delegate including travel and accommodation or share the costs of a delegate between the number of delegates allowed by the Party rules

            (ii) the CLP will alternate annually between a male and a female delegate. If more than one delegate is sent, at least one will be a female delegate.
